Solar Water Displays For Your Home
                                                                      July 18th, 2012 | Author: admin

Perhaps one of the newest exterior landscaping designs to be on display in many American homes is the solar water feature. The benefits of a solar powered water display in your landscape designs and gardens go beyond the sheer beauty and the unique visuals cast by these beautiful objects.

With so many people in every walk of life now interested in being better stewards of the planet, the number of people opting for solar powered anything is growing with every passing day. Solar water features are usually placed in the garden and involve using the power of the sun to move the water used in the display. They are generally powered by a small pump that derives is energy directly from a photovoltaic cell that converts solar power into electricity. You will find many different types of solar waterscapes including waterfalls and water fountains.

The Beauty of the Koi Pond
                                                                      July 18th, 2012 | Author: admin

Chances are that the first and last time you saw a koi pond was in your favorite Asian-inspired restaurant or if not there, perhaps in the lush gardens of a posh hotel where you recently stayed. Other than those places, most people don’t have a koi pond next to their tomato and pepper plants or along side their garage or flower beds. However, this isn’t quite as true as it might sound as water features in general are becoming much more a part of the home landscaper’s overall designs and for many of these people, the koi pond is the likely choice for their outdoor waterscape.

Fountains of Youth

                                                                      July 18th, 2012 | Author: admin

Adding a water fountain, a decorative fountain not a public drinking station, can add years to your life, or at least that’s what Ponce De Leon believed. Or was he under the impression that the water flowing from one particular fountain was the elixir of life?

Well, until we get some clarification from a history buff we’ll go on the assumption that Ponce was probably intentionally misled by ticked-off Native Americans about his fountain and that water fountains in general, while not necessarily the key to longevity, can be a source of comfort and therapeutic vibes, which have been proven to add to one’s life expectancy. How’s that for a sales pitch! The pitch aside, suffice it to say that if your home is suitable in size and style for a decorative water fountain, it can be a wonderful addition  to the overall aesthetic of your home, and perhaps to the overall quality of your life.

Suburban Waterfalls

                                                                      July 18th, 2012 | Author: admin

Waterfalls are quite mesmerizing and have been a source of amazement and inspiration for as long as humans have been around to view them. We generally think of waterfalls as grand, natural wonders that only Mother Nature is capable of building. That is certainly the case of those falls

on the scale of Niagara Falls, Yosemite Falls or any of the other waterfalls dotting the landscape along the Colorado River as it flows through the Grand Canyon. And to some extent this image is true. Waterfalls are natural wonders that have been created over millions of years of the geological evolution of our planet. There are many examples of man-made water falls but these pale in comparison to those just mentioned and chances are that there are many more of these grand falls hidden deep in forests only accessible and therefore visible to the most intrepid hikers and explorers. However, these creations of nature are just one type of waterfall and the soothing pleasures and therapeutic power of cascading water are not limited solely to these magnificent and powerful sites. With a little effort and a couple of dollars you can add a waterfall to your home landscape design and enjoy the existential pleasure and healing power of tumbling water.

The Pond In Your Yard

                                                                      July 18th, 2012 | Author: admin

Quite often the home gardener will be so caught up in finding the right plants and shrubs for different areas of his or her yard that the thought of incorporating a “waterscape” never occurs to them. A waterscape is simply a generic term that refers to the use of any type of water feature that is built into the overall landscape design of your

property. And frankly, the home horticulturalist can’t really be blamed too much because even if the notion did cross their mind it would be quickly dismissed in most cases due to the imagined costs and/or difficulty in putting a pond, waterfall, or water fountain in your back or front yard. However, while understandable, these thoughts aren’t exactly on point because these days you can build many of these water features on your own at a price that won’t make you wince.
